Ok, you music lovers and especially all of you on the go - here's the question. Living in the generation of ipods - do you dare bring along your old cassette player walkman or Sony Cd walkmans when you take a walk or jog? I am just curious how many people have reverted to ipods now a days?

I was taking my daily walk around the neighborhood the other day, cassette player walkman attached to my sweatpants and then comes along a chic twenty something girl with a pretty hip looking Ipod. OMG, I felt like a complete dork. I sorta put my head down when we passed each other and then came home and wondered? Do I really have to get with the times and get an Ipod? LOL

Tell me your stories. Am I the last person stuck in the stone ages?

I'm kinda torn on the whole Ipod thing. It would be great to just load my CDs on there and take it to work instead of carrying a case and leaving my stereo on my desk. I've also thought it would be great to take to the gym as it's less bulky than others. But, do I want to fork out $200+ for something that will be outdated/obsolete in 6 months? No.

The way that they are coming out with these are a bit crazy. I can't imagine needing the amount of storage that some of these have.

So, unless you're running a marathon and need the hours of entertainment at your fingertips, I wouldn't sweat it.

If you just want to be part of the "in" crowd, Target does have some lower price MP3 players that start around $50 and are much more portable than the bulkier walkmans and one comes in pink Wink

It's funny you mention this.
I work on a university campus, and a friend and I went to lunch the other day and passed several students walking to/from class. This one guy walked by us with some kind of walkman and my co-worker(mid-40's) said: Why doesn't he get those paperplates off his ears and get an ipod? He was referring to the size of the earphones. LOL

I just recently caved in and purchased an Ipod. Yes, for use at the gym, but more for use in my car. I purchased an adapter for the car and can fit ALL of my CDs on my Ipod and play music I like all the time without having to search for a CD or leave my CDs in the car while waiting for them to be stolen. So I purchased it for ease of use rather than to be "hip". And I love it. The only drawback was I then had to purchase a portable hard drive JUST to store all my music as my laptop, my preferred use of home computer, would have bogged down with all the files. But this also ended up being a good thing as I use it to backup my website files as well and it keeps my laptop running smooth...

Sam

I am all for the Ipod...

The Ipod seems to be the big contender here! Big Grin

Wow, I had NO idea you could get one for as low as $50.00 at Target and pink is my favorite color. Thanks so much Rxr for telling me. And Rella, ha ha that is too funny that they are referring to the headphones as "paper plates." I tend to use those ear buds, but you do still see some of the "paper plates" around.

Sam, wow, the Ipod seems to be really working out for you and like you said, more for the ease of its use rather than how you look carrying it.

I am going to probablly still use my walkman for awhile until I get my mp3 collection of music on my computer built up some more. It will sure beat having to rewind and rewind and then pass up the song I want to hear on walkman.

As for audio cassettes, have most of you thrown them out at this point, or are you hanging on to them for sentimental purposes? I've given some away to the Goodwill and to Friends, but I still have a couple of hundred tapes remaining. I think like with my old record albums, I will hang on to select ones that are sentimental, even if it means keeping them in a box in the basement. LOL

Thanks for telling me your feelings on Ipods!

Ahem, I still have a cassette deck in my car, and still would like to see TT add a cassette trading category. Supposedly, they might add this along with a vynal record album category.

Keep those cassettes. One day they could be worth a bunch of points.

Mindy - I'll do ya one better than that. I have none of those, not even a cell phone. I have steadfastly refused to get one so far as I want to get away from the phone when I'm out and about. Guess that's what happens when you're in business for yourself and feel harried by the phone!

So what DO you do, Bill? Besides preside over the TT forums and raise your pom-poms?

Sam

I have a few different jobs Sammy! Suffice to say that I am self-employed, and wear a few different hats.

That way, I never have to settle down to just one thing, I get to try different things, and never actually have to grow up!

How 'bout you?

Here is my view on the Walkman. Use it! I hate that society makes you feel that you have to spend more money just to be up with the times. Not everyone can afford to keep replacing their devices for listening to music. Whether it be for excercise or just plain fun, If it Ain't broke don't fix it!!!

off the subject for a sec, how do you get the little pictures under your names?

Personally, I don't think I bowed to society's pressures. I just found a useful and time saving tool. Smiler

1. At top of forums page select "GO"
2. Personal Zone -->
3. Profile -->
4. View/Edit Profile -->
5. Under Public Profile Field choose "Avatar"

Hope that helps!!

Sam

"In real life" - Well, I've been in the financial sector for 12 years and starting to feel a tad burnt. I also just became certified as a web master last summer. One day I may actually make some money from it.

"In my fantasy life" - World traveller, cantina owner in the Caribbean, rare book shop owner, lottery winner (philanthropist).

Apparently Sam,
we live in the same fantasy world...Though for me lottery winner would be first Wink

The only reason why I even have a cell phone is because I used to sell Pampered Chef and I didn't want customers to call my house. After I stopped doing that I never got rid of it. I'd like to upgrade but it works and I'm a SAHM so no unnecessary spending. keep it cheap baby!
