I was looking at my collection of unreleased, unaired public domain films and wondered how Titletrader felt about posting burnt copies of them. Example: Aquaman unaired pilot, Bibi Blocksberg , like Harry Potter in German with English subs, released in Europe but never in North America. Upcoming HBO's "True Blood" workprint, pre-release (cool vampire series), all being public domain , not being licensed for North American distribution.

A good question I have a bunch of fan subbed animes some never released in the us ( as far as I know) I spent the time to convert them to playable dvd's but have traded for the actual dvds seeing as how I collect. I would love to see them go to fans. I have some burned dvd copys too but I dont think we can post those. I know fan subbs are not illegal untill a U.S. company buys the rights so those are ok.

I shouldn't use the word copy, All my public domain dvd's were created by me. I take a video not copyrighted (or sold) in North America, create menus and subtitles as needed using Ulead, VirtualDubMod and other software to create the dvd. Copying retail dvds is naughty.

I personally don't believe in profiting from public domain or fansubs. My vote is to keep them off the main listings.

It's not about profiting...it takes many hours to assemble and encode a decent quality dvd. Its about sharing video you will never be able to buy in a store in the US and Canada.
There are videos that eventually make dvd, Witchblade is finally coming out on dvd, Blood Ties is supposed to get a NTSC Region 1 release soon, but many will never get released in North America.

Its not like anyone is asking cash. Just trade for time spent and the dvd cost. All my fan subbs have fan art covers and some have dvd lables they take lots of time to make menues and convert. If no one wants them here thats fine though I would just have liked to get somthing back for my effort.

Plus frofit means

1. Often, profits. a. pecuniary gain resulting from the employment of capital in any transaction. Compare gross profit, net profit.
b. the ratio of such pecuniary gain to the amount of capital invested.
c. returns, proceeds, or revenue, as from property or investments.

2. the monetary surplus left to a producer or employer after deducting wages, rent, cost of raw materials, etc.: The company works on a small margin of profit

So if you just ask for what you put in there is no profit only reembursement.

Thanks all ( I know I am stubern but I cant help makeing a point) Wink

Well while TT points aren't technically cash, they are used for items of monetary value and bought/sold for cash. While you may see it as an exchange for the time spend producing the dvd and assorted costs, others might not put the same value on it as you. Fansub groups do much more work and freely distribute recouping only small amounts from banners and donations. Plus, I just don't think they hold the same value as the current dvd listings and that overposting of copies could hurt the image of TT.

That is just my opinion however, others may not agree with me and wish to trade for them. In that case might I suggest trading disc for disc instead of points through the forums, or at least create private ads so that the main page remains unaffected.
