I requested a book and the Sender sent the book. The book was listed under a specific ISBN and listed as "New". However, the book I received has a different ISBN (therefore a different edition, different size, different cover photo) and it was not "New" (it has a big crease down the spine).

I wouldn't have requested the book had it been listed correctly. I really needed THAT ISBN and a NEW book -- it was to be a gift. Otherwise, I was going to go to Amazon.

The Sender will give me back my point only if I return the book. However, he will not refund me the postage it will cost me to send the book back to him.

If I relist the book and it is ulitmately requested, I am still out the postage.

#1 -- is there a rule that you MUST post the book under the appropriate ISBN (if the book has an ISBN)?

#2 -- "New" means new, right? Unread?

#3 -- should I file a Dispute? This is the only way I can figure of getting my point back without shelling out $$$.

Thoughts?

The item was grossly misrepresented and the user is refusing an acceptable solution, so yes, I would leave negative feedback and file a dispute for your point return. If more users do this, perhaps it will deter people from falsely listing items. Be patient with your dispute as they can take a month or so to process but have faith, the point will be returned, eventually. Smiler

a difrent ISBN should not matter. If its a difrent book altogather I try to leave a note. As for it haveing a big crease thats not cool. maybe the lister ment New item?? It is misleading though. I would leave bad feedback saying the book was not in listed condition.

The book was to be a gift. It needed to be new, it needed to be that ISBN (it was to replace a book with that ISBN that had been damaged, and the gift book needed to match the damaged book).

In this case, the ISBN mattered.

A bit of a side track--

I have hit on ISBN being very important when dealing with college text books.

Now I add the ISBN to the description of any text books I list on this other site

Doesnt' make sense to me, but I'm not in charge. Seems although you enter the ISBN when you add a book to your inventory, the set up isn't like here, where the amz link takes you to the specific book. (on there, sometimes the Amz link takes you to simply books with a matching word or two in the title)

I've asked a few times, but never had a response -- (time to just drop the topic I guess) What is the purpose of adding books by isbn to our inventory, if the best you can hope for when a requester clicks is getting the same title?
could be, HC/PB/audio/and several edition #

Anyways, let me drift back on topic, sorry this happened to you Jeff, sometimes these things, like in your case, are more important than other times when you are just after a book you want to read. Sometimes the differences have a greater effect.

sorry you have had such a bad swap. As for the rulles I dont think there are many other than try your best to keep things fair. Tittle trader is a site to swap your used items. It says that on the front page. You come accross new items sometimes but rarly. mis posting an item such as posting an item as new when its not I am sure would warrent a dispute. as for ISBN I still have to disagree. i do understand in this case it matterd to you. When entering an item into the tittle trader system though it gives you a coice of ISBN, UPC or just useing the tittle. Of course useing the tittle will not yeild up a specific ISBN. Unfortunatly most publishers just use the same ISBN when releaseing a new addition . So you can get a difrent edition with the same ISBN as well. Unfortunatly sites like this are not ment for that specific of terms. I would definitly do a dispute on the "NEW" listing though. As that was not the condition of the book. Seeing as how you tried to work it out and the lister was unwilling. Or just leave bad feedback and cut your losses as I usually chose to do. Whatever your choice good luck!!
